Rosin is applied to the bow of the violin, rosin creates greater friction between the bow hair and the violin string, the sound of which then resonates inside the violin resulting in that beautiful sound.

Rosin is available across many brands and often several strengths within the brand. If playing at a higher level the player will know which brand and strength they prefer, if starting out we recommend  a middle of the road rosin such as Hidersine 3v.

Several types of violin strings exist, the difference generally being the core. Violin String Sizes

Violin strings generally come in two sizes, one size which cover full size 4/4 and ¾ size strings. And another smaller string set size which covers ½ and ¼ size violins. In each case the strings cover a larger and smaller size of violin, in the case of using the smaller violin you simply wind the excess string around the peg.
